The Role

The Primary Care Mental Health Team in West Dunbartonshire is delighted to offer two 12‑month fixed‑term posts: one 1 WTE and one 0.5 WTE Band 7 Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) or CBT Therapist role within our team.

Postholders will deliver evidence‑based psychological therapies to service users with a range of presenting mental health conditions in both individual and group formats. They will provide specialised clinical supervision, contribute to local teaching, training and service development initiatives, and access CPD opportunities and clinical supervision with a Clinical Psychologist.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location: The Vale Centre for Health & Care
* Fixed‑term contract for 12 months
* Full‑time and part‑time positions available
* Shift pattern: Monday‑Thursday 9 am–4:45 pm, Friday 9 am–4:30 pm


Key Responsibilities

* Manage an appropriate clinical caseload, taking responsibility for cases requiring specialised cognitive‑behavioural assessments and interventions, including complex co‑morbidity.
* Provide specialist assessments, including risk assessments, based on interpretation and integration of complex information from referral sources, interviews and self‑report measures.
* Develop cognitive‑behavioural formulations of patients’ difficulties using wide‑range information.
* Deliver a cognitive‑behavioural therapy service tailored to the needs of individuals attending West Dunbartonshire PCMHT.
* Participate in joint working with other healthcare professionals as required and agreed with the Team Lead.
* Provide advice, guidance, consultation and teaching on matters relating to cognitive behavioural therapy to other professions and non‑professional carers.
* Teach, train and supervise mental health care staff practising cognitive behavioural therapy, with emphasis on nurses and occupational therapists.
* Receive regular clinical supervision from a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, discussing clinical work, research and audit.
* Engage in appropriate CPD programmes and document these in accordance with BPS/BABCP guidance.
* Keep abreast of new developments in psychological therapies in adult mental health and disseminate this information to colleagues.
* Take part in and contribute to the CPD programme within the Service.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job


Essential

* Honours degree in Psychology (eligible for GBR) and Masters level (or equivalent) degree in Psychological Therapy in Primary Care
* Experience of working in an NHS mental health setting and of multi‑disciplinary working.
* Experience of cognitive behavioural assessment and treatment of adult clients with a range of mental health problems.
* Evidence of continued professional development through attendance at workshops, seminars and reading of up‑to‑date professional journals and books.
* Well‑developed skills in communicating effectively in written and oral modes, including the capacity to impart clinically sensitive and technical information to a range of recipients.
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non‑professional groups.
* Capacity to establish priorities and organise workload effectively.


Desirable

* Professional Registration with BPS
* Skills in teaching and training others.
* Supervisory training and experience in the delivery of supervision to others.
