Job Description Summary
The Production Operative will work on the shop floor building high-quality electro-mechanical assemblies and operating automated test equipment in line with defined quality standards. The role supports production output and customer delivery deadlines within a structured manufacturing environment.
Business Justification
Forward load in GFD production demonstrates the requirement for an average of five additional production heads to meet current and forecast demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Build electrical and mechanical assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610 standards
- Carry out soldering activities to the required quality standards
- Assemble wiring looms and components, including wiring to engineering drawings-
- Operate automated test equipment on sub-assemblies and completed assemblies
- Perform self-inspection to ensure products meet quality requirements
- Record and report any defects, discrepancies, or non-conformances
- Pack finished products in line with company and customer requirements
- Adhere to all work instructions, quality standards, and production timescales
- Achieve agreed output and quality targets
- Maintain strong ESD and FOD awareness at all times
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised shop-floor working environment
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet deadlines, demonstrating flexibility where required
- Report issues, concerns, or deviations promptly to the Team Leader or Line Manager
- Train colleagues when requested, in line with agreed company standards and processes

Skills & Experience
- Experience in electrical and mechanical assembly
- Soldering experience
- ESD awareness
- Ability to follow work instructions and engineering documentation
- Experience operating or working with automated test equipment
- Background in a similar manufacturing or production role (2–3 years' experience)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Desirable
- Wiring experience
- Ability to wire assemblies to engineering drawings and schematics
- Previous experience in a regulated or high-quality manufacturing environment
