Working pattern
4-days a week
Tuesday – Thursday, 12-noon until 8pm
Saturday, 10:00am until 6:00pm
Salary £25,600 (£32,000 FTE), 12 month fixed term contract
About the role
We are looking for a community-driven individual with a passion for leading public community spaces. They will take care of the space, taking some ownership for overseeing the activities that happen within it and helping to push the organisation forward.
Role purpose and core accountabilities
Operations
* Supervise day-to-day operations of the Centre
* Ensuring staff are available to welcome people into the Centre, including Casual and Volunteer Group Facilitators, staff and volunteers
* Liaise with Finance & HR Lead on Centre revenue to stay within budget and develop new income streams
* Undergo training where needed
* Advise team on the best ways to resolve issues with community members and deliver excellent customer service
* Ensure the Centre’s Code of Conduct is maintained and adhered to, as an inclusive safer space
Volunteer Management
* Supervision of a bank of volunteers
* Oversee development of induction process
* Keep records and files up-to-date
* Make sure we are compliant with volunteer management guidelines within industry
* Volunteer management through the volunteer system
* Organise activities and mentoring programme for volunteers
* Develop strategy for volunteer retainment
* Volunteer inbox management
* Undertake volunteer management training course, as and when required
Stakeholder Management
* Nurture friendly relationships with visitors and community members to increase loyalty and brand reputation
* Build relationships with partners in the health and wellbeing industry
* Build relationships with higher profile non-LGBTQ+ partners, like local cultural institutions and universities
Safeguarding Lead for Adult Services
* Ensure the Adult safeguarding policy is up-to-date
* Undertake training regularly to ensure we are compliant and have best practices in place
* Record safeguarding issues and report to CEO and the Board
* With the Head of Operations Change & Income Generation and Lead, ensuring policies are reviewed regularly and kept up-to-date: Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Right to Refuse etc.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead
* Lead efforts to expand the Wellbeing service at the Centre and further afield
* Contribute to reporting, along with Head of Operations Change and Income Generation and Knowledge and Data Administrator.
* Hold Induction 1:1s with community members before joining social groups.
Leadership
* Line manage the Wellbeing Officer, LGBTQ+ Knowledge & Data Administrator, Casual Group Facilitators and Volunteers
* Represent the organisation at external events and publicity opportunities
Income Generation
This post will have an income generation target of £25,000, which will be made up of:
* Ensuring facilitators collect group attendance payments
* Venue and room hire
* Regional expansion of our groups into new neighbourhoods
* Develop funding applications to support service expansion
*As this is the first year income targets have been set, these will be monitored on a regular basis by SLT with Leads to ensure we are on target, or to adapt our plans and targets accordingly.
Requirements and skills
* An engaging, passionate, energetic human
* Someone who can work self-sufficiently, and can lead a team of both staff and volunteers
* Two years’ experience in project management, volunteer management or hospitality roles
* Experience in client-facing roles, especially within community spaces
* Experience working with marginalised communities
* Experience in Safeguarding management, with a good understanding of communities’ needs, and willingness to learn
* Someone who understands community, and has experience of diverse LGBTQI+ communities
* Excellent people management and communication skills
* Excellent team player who can be flexible and adaptable
* Experience of contracts and invoicing (alongside the Finance and HR Lead)
* Financially responsible
* Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)
Community Support
* All staff are expected to support and contribute to fundraising and community activities for the OutHouse (with time off in lieu usually being available when they occur outside of working hours), including, for example:
* OutHouse organised and hosted events
* Local and regional Pride events (running OutHouse stands and marching)
* Assisting with running OutHouse stands at local and regional events
