About the role:
An opportunity has arisen for a Permanent Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic and supportive Sample Reception team in the UCLH Rapid Response Laboratory.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work and being part of a fast‑paced laboratory environment.
As a key member of our Sample Reception team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely handling of patient samples. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Receiving, identifying and carrying out pre‑analytical preparation and storage of samples and request forms from a range of service users.
* Triaging and dispatching samples to the correct laboratory destinations, maintaining accuracy at every step via the tube tracker system.
* Coordinating the referral of samples to third‑party laboratories.
* Working closely with the RRL Helpdesk team, supporting clients and service users through telephone and email communication.
No previous laboratory experience is required — full training will be provided. We are looking for someone who has:
* Good computer literacy
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* A positive, team‑focused attitude
* Flexibility with tasks and workload as service needs change
This role is part of our late‑shift coverage, but as the laboratory operates 24/7, you will be expected to participate in shift patterns that support this operational period, in line with departmental requirements.
