We are looking for an electrically biased maintenance technician to join a team primarily undertaking electrical day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements. This is on a temporary to permanent basis.
Your main duties will be:
1. Carry out electrical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable engineering services.
2. Where necessary, carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to the hospital's fixed electrical installations and portable equipment so as to maintain a safe and reliable service.
3. To carry out electrical portable appliance and fixed wiring inspection and testing in compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 / BS7671 and the Estates Department schedule of inspection.
4. Where instructed, install and test new electrical installations in accordance with the current electrical regulations and hospital standards.
5. When required, advise others on the correct operation of equipment to which you are conversant.
6. To become fully conversant with the function of all mechanical and electrical systems within the remit of the Estates Department.
7. When required, participate in the gritting and snow/ice clearance of the Hospital roads and pavements.
8. Be able to read, understand and work from engineering and architectural drawings.
9. To carry out routine testing of essential systems and equipment e.g. fire alarm, nurse call systems, steam-raising boiler plant, hospital generators, etc., recording results in accordance with Estates Department policy and procedures.
10. Become conversant with the hospital's Building Management System to an extent that alarms can be interpreted, actioned and reset.
11. Participation in response/emergency teams for fire, major incident and any other requiring an Estates Department input.
Essential criteria:
* You will need to have completed an accredited Electrical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills, e.g. air conditioning HNC/HND Electrical Engineering.
* High level of knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical services/systems and a working knowledge of other associated trades.
* Familiarity with approved guidance documents.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Willing to develop individual knowledge.
Multi Discipline Experience:
Although the post is primarily based at the Alexandra Hospital Redditch, the post holder will be required to undertake work at Kidderminster Hospital and other Trust sites as required.
