The Role
As a Personal Care Assistant, you’ll be part of our client’s dedicated support team, providing essential care in their home and the community. You’ll be employed by HomeCareDirect but will focus solely on supporting this client.
Shifts are 12 hours and will either be 8am to 8pm or 8pm to 8am. Waking nights will be discussed during your screening along with your preferences for days or nights and the hours required. The client is currently in a hospital setting in Southport, and you will be required to undertake training and shadowing there initially until she returns home. Expenses will be paid, or accommodation can be provided, which will be discussed in detail during your screening call.
About the Client & Your Responsibilities
Our client is a vibrant 30-year-old lady who requires 24/7 complex care from a dedicated team of Personal Assistants. Support is provided both in the family home and out in the community to help her live life to the fullest. She enjoys walks, shopping, exploring new experiences, and pampering activities like getting dressed up, having her hair done, and relaxing with her favourite Disney films, music, and her sensory light projector.
This role involves providing full support with personal care, including bladder and bowel care. You will also be responsible for administering nutrition, hydration, and medication via PEG-J, as well as supporting oxygen therapy, tracheostomy care, and ventilation. Moving and handling using a hoist is also part of the routine.
Our client is non-verbal and uses various cues to communicate, so being observant and responsive is essential. Her family can offer valuable insights to support this understanding initially. English is her first language.
We’re looking for someone who is happy, upbeat, and brings a positive attitude. Kindness, compassion, and a gentle approach are essential qualities, as building a strong, trusting relationship with our client is central to what we do. Previous care experience isn’t necessary—what matters most is having the right personality and values.
Full training and shadowing will be provided to ensure you feel confident and supported. While a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available for trips out in the community, it’s not essential for all team members to be drivers.
