Consultant in Paediatric Medicine WAI in Safeguarding

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Consultant in Paediatrics to join our vibrant and supportive general paediatric team at Sheffield Children's.
This post combines acute and general paediatric responsibilities with a specialist role in safeguarding. The Safeguarding Support Unit (SSU) delivers child protection medical assessments to children young people and families from Sheffield and the wider region. You will contribute to high-quality care and service development across both general paediatrics and the SSU.
About You:
CCT in Paediatrics or equivalent (or within 6 months of obtaining).
Relevant expertise in Safeguarding
CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the time of application.

Main duties of the job
You will report to the Associate Medical Director, and responsibilities will include:
Deliver general paediatric care through clinics and acute service cover, including Consultant of the Week duties, rapid access clinics, twilight shifts, weekends, and on-call commitments.
Participate in safeguarding assessments for children and young people through:
Suspected abuse and neglect assessments
CSAAS forensic medical assessments (support and supervision provided if needed)

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
* Higher degree e.g. MSc/PhD relevant to the subspecialty
Training
* Valid APLS training
* FMERSA Certification
Clinical Experience
* Good clinical experience in general paediatrics
* Evidence of prior safeguarding experience and interest
* Experience in organisation of clinical audit and medical education to enhance service provision and education provision
* Experience of working within the NHS
* Experience within SARC unit
Audit/Research
* Competence in clinical audit
* Able to initiate and carry out medical research projects
Teaching
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and post graduate doctors
* Specific training in education and/or appraisal
Management
* Experience in management e.g., trainee rotas
* Clear involvement in audit projects, evidence of management of change
* Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants
* Specific management training
Other Qualities
* Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues from both medical and other disciplines
Other Requirements
* GMC Registration
* MDU/MPS or other medical indemnity in place
