Purpose of the Role
To ensure that all pre and post-contract commercial and contractual activities are carried out professionally and in accordance with company procedures and strategies. Implement and manage procedures to control contracts, deliver the agreed margins and cash projections, and mitigate business risks and commercial exposure. Manage the tendering process and serve as the main point of contact for all business enquiries and tenders. Ensure tenders are prepared, reviewed, and issued promptly and in the best commercial interests of the company. Support sales and marketing activities.
Person Specification
* Degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management
* Strong organizational and coaching skills
* Experience with Network Rail forms of contract, including NEC, ICE, MF/1, and JCT, especially target cost contracts
* Knowledge of tender preparation processes
* Thorough understanding of commercial and financial matters
* Personal Track Safety certification
* Project Induction experience
* IOD Strategic Safety Management knowledge
* Experience in managing and leading a team
Key Responsibilities
* Manage daily commercial activities, including contractual rights, obligations, liabilities, variations, and operational cost control, while mitigating risks and exposures.
* Report directly to the Head of Commercial as delegated.
* Focus on client contracts and payments.
* Ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
* Prepare and review construction estimates in collaboration with delivery teams and estimators.
* Negotiate rates and payment schedules with clients, including forecasted payments.
* Submit payment applications and manage claims and variations to maximize value.
* Ensure timely client payments and identify supply chain needs.
* Maintain planned works within budget and oversee sign-off processes for depot spend.
* Manage accruals, income statements, and monthly reconciliations.
* Present financial reports and manage risk and insurance matters.
* Manage subcontractor accounts and payments.
* Collaborate with the Head of Commercial and other teams, including Delivery, Procurement, and Finance.
* Prepare final accounts and audit reports.
* Drive continuous improvement and adapt to organizational changes.
* Perform other duties as required.
