In line with our ambitious growth strategy, we are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen our Commercial Team in our South West region. This key position will oversee cost management, procurement strategy, and overall commercial performance across our developments. You will also provide leadership and mentoring to junior colleagues while supporting strategic planning and commercial reporting initiatives across the business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead cost planning, budgeting, and commercial management across a flagship development to ensure profitability, value, and quality.
2. Support the Head of Commercial in regional financial planning and performance improvement.
3. Manage end-to-end subcontract procurement, from tender preparation and analysis to negotiation and appointment.
4. Provide commercial insight during land acquisition, design, and value engineering to maintain scheme viability.
5. Oversee cost control, forecasting, valuations, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
6. Mentor and guide Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, supporting professional growth.
7. Attend and lead commercial and site meetings, ensuring effective collaboration across project teams.
8. Evaluate subcontractor performance and contribute to preferred supplier development.
9. Ensure compliance with internal policies, contracts, and NHBC/LABC standards.
10. Resolve disputes, manage final accounts, and support contract administration in line with legal requirements.
11. Drive continuous improvement in procurement, cost management, and reporting processes.
12. Prepare and present monthly and quarterly commercial reports to senior leadership.
What you will bring
13. Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to step up, ideally within housebuilding or residential development.
14. Strong expertise in cost planning, procurement, subcontract management, and commercial reporting, including experience with multi-storey apartment schemes.
15. Ability to manage multiple developments and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
16. Excellent stakeholder management, maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, consultants, and Registered Providers across the Bristol region.
17. Confident leader and mentor with strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
18. Commercially astute with excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy.
19. Proficient in COINS (or similar systems), Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools.
20. Professionally qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related field (HNC/HND/BSc), with RICS membership or progression desirable.
21. Full UK driving licence.
