Community, participation & volunteering co-ordinator

Holt
National Trust
Posted: 12 April
Offer description

Summary

As our Community, Participation & Volunteer Co-Ordinator, you will champion the value of engagement, support the team to co-ordinate activities, and help grow and diversify opportunities so more people can get involved. This is a varied role that requires excellent organisational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving and strong relationship management skills.

You'll be required to work some weekends.

What it's like to work here

You'll report to the Property Operations Manager as part of the Operations team across the National Trust Norfolk Coast, Broads & Sheringham portfolio. This large and diverse portfolio includes places such as Brancaster, Brancaster Staithe, Stiffkey, Morston Quay, Blakeney, Blakeney Point, Salthouse, Sheringham Park Horsey Windpump and Heigham Homes. You’ll work across the portfolio, whilst being based in Blakeney, and will be a key part of the wider team. Part of your role will involve engaging with groups in our local community to develop partnerships and strong working relationships.

You'll be expected to carry out Duty Manager responsibilities as part of your role. As a duty manager, you'll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of a property within the wider portfolio during opening hours - acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.

You’ll also work closely with our Programming Assistant and Senior Visitor Experience Officer to champion participation and help with signage, interpretation and the visitor journey.

What you'll be doing

You’ll support our community engagement and volunteering work, putting people at the centre of our plans. You’ll build strong partnerships, create inclusive volunteering opportunities, support and value our many volunteers, and encourage community‑led activities that help restore nature.

You’ll support colleagues, champion best practice, and ensure our systems and data are well managed. You’ll work to remove barriers to participation, ensuring underrepresented voices are heard and actively involved.

You'll look to build collaborations and partnerships within our community by creating and supporting opportunities for people to share time and skills, actively supporting community, partner led or independent activities.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

1. a strong understanding of community engagement, participatory practice, and volunteer innovation
2. experience in increasing community participation and developing inclusive opportunities
3. excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
4. the ability to coach and support others, and to work collaboratively across teams
5. confidence in using data and insight to guide decisions
6. knowledge of relevant legislation including safeguarding, GDPR, and equality
7. a proactive, empathetic, and inclusive approach
