The Post

We provide a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus on delivering health improvement and patient care. The core purpose of the Digital and Security (DaS) organisation is the provision of world‑class Digital and Security expertise, solutions and services to our customers, which include NSS, NHS Boards, Scottish Government and the wider public sector.
A critical role in ensuring integrated Business Technology strategy and delivery of suitable and effective solutions and services is the Senior Service Manager (SSM) position. This role will strengthen our Operations Management Team and will be specifically focused on the MS‑365 National Platform Managed Service as critical national infrastructure that underpins delivery of services by NHS Scotland and the wider public sector.
The Candidate
As a Senior Service Manager (SSM) you will be responsible for ensuring we design, develop and manage the infrastructure, suppliers, contracts and associated operational services which underpin critical clinical and administrative services across NHS Scotland.
Responsibilities
* Own and manage the delivery of critical infrastructure services including on‑premise, private and public cloud solutions with particular focus on national contracts supplying key digital services to NSS.
* Act as interface with strategic suppliers to manage internal relationships with NHSS and NSS customers consuming digital services through these contracts.
* Actively contribute to a culture of high performance, innovation and continuous improvement.
* Work with SSM peers to develop and implement a target operating model as part of the transformation across the Cloud Engineering and Operations Team.
Education And Experience
* Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in an IT or other relevant discipline.
* Post‑graduate qualification in the specialist area, e.g. ISEB, MCSE or the Professional Certificate in Management or equivalent Master’s degree.
* Well‑developed leadership, interpersonal and motivational skills.
* Significant experience working at senior management level within the NHS or Public Sector.
* Experience of working across a complex, and often politically driven, group of stakeholders to reach agreements.
* Demonstrable experience of designing, implementing and managing large national digital service offerings and projects.
* Demonstrable experience managing a multi‑vendor portfolio with complex contractual engagements.
General Requirements
* Demonstrable experience of managing a team.
* Demonstrate taking ownership and using initiative.
* Highly developed analytical and judgmental skills.
* Highly developed communication skills; verbal, written and presentational.
Location and Working Pattern
Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Delta House, Glasgow. Currently hybrid working, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week. It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
