Job Description
Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK, publishing hundreds of stories a day and reaching over 170m unique users digitally every month. Its exclusives set the news agenda and its campaigns have changed the lives of many.
The Sun has a mass‑market audience and aims to appeal to a diverse audience in the UK and beyond.
Your team
An iconic, dynamic storyteller with a rich heritage and a global audience in the millions. The Sun is now focusing on an exciting, video‑focused strategy to engage new audiences, putting video at the heart of The Sun. This is your chance to join a talented team at a pivotal moment, contributing to fast‑paced, agenda‑setting video output that drives traffic and revenue.
Your role
As a Senior Video Editor in Sun Originals, you will be a key player in leading our team of editors to craft compelling proactive video content for our sport and Fabulous content strands, driving views and engagement across digital platforms. With an excellent working knowledge of content analytics you will confidently make recommendations for how to improve content edits, and pass this onto the team below you.
This is an opportunity for an experienced editor in the digital space, looking to step up and lead a high performance team.
Day to day you will
* Edit video content across all content strands in an efficient manner, demonstrating versatility by editing everything from narrative documentary‑style pieces to game show formats and short, graphics‑driven social videos. Projects will range from quick‑turnaround clips to longer‑form stories, demanding high editorial quality and speed.
* Tailor content for multiple platforms, particularly YouTube, our website, and social media channels, optimising for views, shares, and overall audience engagement.
* Work closely with video producers and social media teams to understand the editorial direction and ensure video content supports wider video strategy goals. Use these insights to set and uphold the technical and editorial standards across the wider Post‑Production team.
* Manage media, handle multi‑camera projects, create and animate graphics, perform colour grading, and execute advanced audio design. Leverage these technical skills to maintain efficiency and uphold brand consistency throughout the post‑production process.
* Stay on top of what drives audience interest online and incorporate that knowledge into video edits, optimising content for clicks, views, and engagement.
What we’re looking for from you
* Experienced Video Editor: hands‑on experience editing in a large, fast‑paced media environment. You understand how to balance speed with quality and hook audiences into a video, then keep them engaged.
* Technical Expertise: advanced working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects.
* Digital Native: you’re immersed in the digital landscape, with a strong understanding of YouTube, social media platforms, and how audiences engage with video content online.
* Platform‑Savvy: you know how to edit for different platforms, particularly YouTube, and understand how to optimise content for each one to increase traffic and engagement.
* Creative Storyteller: you have a passion for storytelling and can bring creativity to every project, whether it’s a breaking news clip or a deep dive into a sports feature.
* Fast & Agile: you’re capable of working quickly and efficiently in a fast‑paced environment, juggling multiple edits without compromising on quality.
