GE Renewable – Grid Integration product line is globally recognised for designing, manufacturing, and delivering customised High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) solutions for utilities worldwide.
Within this cross-centers and multicultural organisation, the Lead Primary Engineer is responsible for designing optimised HVDC substation layouts that integrate all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints.
You can intervene during the Intent To Order (tender) and/or Order To Remittance stages (projects). You will report to your regional Team Leader and functionally to the Plant engineering manager.
GE offers two HVDC technologies, Line Commutated Converters (LCC) and Voltage Source Converters (VSC), supporting various applications including offshore wind, long-distance power transmission, and energy trading.
Responsibilities
* Technical lead for primary and secondary design of HVDC substations.
* Translate project contractual documents into requirements and technical specifications.
* Define and control project planning to ensure timely delivery.
* Review and validate engineering deliverables.
* Design optimised substation layouts considering installation, operation, and maintenance constraints.
* Organize and perform design and gate reviews.
* Manage interfaces with other disciplines, suppliers, and cross-functions.
* Support installation, commissioning, and site activities, providing solutions to engineering issues.
* Assist the Project Manager with project progress, risks, and opportunities.
* Engage with customers, contractors, and suppliers, presenting technical aspects.
* Respond to technical queries from clients, partners, and suppliers.
* Lead the design engineering team for assigned projects.
* Manage change requests impacting deliverables and schedules.
* Provide cost-effective solutions for tenders.
* Promote continuous improvement within the engineering function.
Experience & Qualifications
* Strong knowledge of international HV substation standards (IEC, IEEE, CIGRE).
* Extensive experience in primary/secondary design of substations, power plants, or HVDC stations.
* Knowledge of EPC contracts and project management.
* Proficiency with Autodesk CAD tools (Revit, BIM360).
* Understanding of civil engineering for onshore and offshore platforms.
* Leadership skills, analytical thinking, and commitment.
* Professional proficiency in English.
* Willingness to travel for site visits or meetings (approx. 10%).
