Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist has arisen to join the Northern Care Alliance Hepatobiliary (HPB) CNS service.

You will work alongside a multi professional team to ensure that patients receive seamless care within the Trust and community. As part of this fantastic role, you will provide specialist advice to support assessment, planning and implementation of care, and where appropriate to deliver programmes of care.

In addition the successful candidate will contribute to specialist education and training programmes for other staff and learners as well as supporting the Band 7s in assessment and management of patients as well as developing the service.

Excellent communication and documentation is essential as the role will include delivering sensitive diagnosis as well as seeing patients in a clinical setting and during procedures.


Main duties of the job

1. Establish and maintain effective communication with various individuals and groups on complex, potentially stressful topics in a range of situations.
2. Liaise with Oncology teams at The Christie and other Acute Oncology Teams.
3. Support patients admitted with complications of treatment or oncological emergencies such as metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC).
4. Support inpatients/outpatients undergoing investigations to establish primary cancer site.
5. Develop knowledge and practice within Acute Oncology.
6. Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area.
7. Contribute to the development of services within Acute Oncology.
8. Contribute to quality improvement.
9. Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.
10. Assess and address people’s health and wellbeing needs when those needs are complex and change across the caseload, utilizing advanced communication skills.
11. Develop practice in addressing individuals health and wellbeing needs.
12. Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice.
13. Assist with research and development.

Person specification


Registration

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Part 1 Adult / General Level 1 or 2)
* Knowledge and experience in HPB-Oncology
* Degree / diploma in nursing studies (or equivalent nursing qualification and experience)


Knowledge and skills

* Post registration skills are essential with exposure to cancer work


Knowledge

* Knowledge of HPB cancers
