Cutlers Hill Surgery is seeking a self-motivated, forward-thinking, and proactive Medical Summariser to join our friendly and highly skilled administrative team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an established, progressive practice committed to innovation, collaborative working, and delivering high-quality patient care.
As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate, up-to-date patient records, helping GPs and the wider team provide safe, effective, and timely care. We are moving towards a paper-light environment, and the successful candidate will be central to this transformation.
This is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave and is subject to a DBS check.
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 25th March.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, reorganise, and summarise patient records and correspondence
Review medical records and produce accurate summaries of patients medical histories
Read-code relevant clinical information into the practice clinical system
Identify higher-risk information requiring clinical input, including safeguarding concerns, following agreed protocols
Refer any required clinical actions to GPs
Monitor progress of notes summarising against practice targets
Support patient call and recall systems
File and retrieve paperwork as required

Purposeof the Role The Medical Summariser will play a critical role in ensuringaccurate, up-to-date, and clinically relevant patient records within apaper-light, digital-first practice environment. This position involvesreviewing, summarising, and Read-coding patient medical records,supporting GPs with correspondence management, and contributing to thesmooth running of administrative and clinical systems. The post-holderwill work independently and collaboratively, strictly adhering to practiceprotocols and safeguarding procedures.
KeyResponsibilities Medical Records Summarising
Review patient medical recordsand produce accurate summaries of medical history
Identify clinically significantinformation, including high-risk or safeguarding issues, and referappropriately to clinical staff
Read-code relevant informationinto the practice clinical system in line with practice protocols
Reorganise and prepare recordsfor summarising, including filing and retrieving paperwork
Administrative Support - Manageincoming correspondence, including hospital letters, patient communications,and reports - Monitor patient call and recall systems - Support theadministrative team with workflow management to ensure timely completion of tasks

Skills and Competencies
Previous experience in medicalsummarising, clinical administration, or healthcare support
Strong computer literacy andproficiency in practice management systems
Excellent attention to detailand accuracy in data entry
Good organisational skills andability to manage workload independently
Effective communication skills,with a professional and courteous approach to colleagues and patients
Ability to work collaborativelyas part of a multi-disciplinary team

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Experience in medical summarising or clinical/medical administration,
* excellent computer literacy and proficiency in clinical systems, especially systmone, strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
* Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently,
* good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Knowledge of confidentiality and data protection in a healthcare setting and awareness of safeguarding principles and ability to identify concerns.
* Experience with Read-coding medical records
* Understanding of NHS administrative processes, including patient call and recall systems
* Experience working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team
* Willingness to undertake training and professional development in medical summarising
