Staff Nurse - Gastroenterology Ward 11

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on Ward 11 at the Aintree site. Full‑time and part‑time hours will be considered and will involve working internal rotation from days to night shifts. The applicant is also expected to work bank holidays and weekends. This vacancy is a 12‑month fixed term to cover maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
Ward 11 is a busy adult gastroenterology ward with a range of patients of all ages and gastro‑medical conditions.
No previous experience is required for any applicants wishing to apply but it would be an advantage if you have some background experience in caring for adults in a hospital setting with gastrointestinal medical conditions.
The ward offers the suitable candidate the opportunity to work within our respected multidisciplinary team. There are opportunities to continue with further study in the gastro field. We expect our nursing team to adhere to the trust’s values and behaviours at all times and the ward sister expects all the staff to work to the high standards set out by the trust.

Job responsibilities
Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care. Inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
Provide information and support to patients/carers, and ensure all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient’s condition.
Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
Diploma in Nursing
Experience
Post registration experience and successful completion of band 5 foundation gateway competencies
Experience within relevant clinical setting
Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment.
Evidence of working with students
Recent acute hospital experience [including as a student nurse]
Knowledge
Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
Demonstrates awareness of own limitations
Skills
Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to support less experienced staff
Ability to problem solve
Good written and verbal communication skills
