Due to significant growth across our Transmission & Distribution Ltd UK business, we are currently seeking to build a talent pool of Site Engineers for both Overhead Lines and Underground Cabling to join our Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd entity, focusing on supporting foremen, timbermen, and subcontractors in the construction and maintenance of overhead lines sites. As a Site Engineer, you will oversee daily health & safety protocols for staff and subcontractors, report incidents, manage project resources, ensure compliance with safety standards, support the Site Manager and Project Manager with documentation and reporting, and coordinate effectively with all stakeholders. This opportunity is a site-based role and we have works issued under various OHL and Cabling frameworks which means the position is UK wide. You will need to be flexible in your work location as you will be away from home for periods of time and will travel and work across the UK.
Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day Health & Safety for staff and subcontractors. Report Safety incidents and near misses internally and externally
* Plan, coordinate, and manage Foremen, Linesmen, Timbermen, and assist the Site Construction Manager in checking staff competencies and training
* Control costs and monitor financial status of your project area
* Produce method statements, work instructions, and risk assessments
* Provide Project Manager with information for monthly reports and project change control
* Plan and coordinate resources (plant, materials, labour) for projects
* Determine material requirements and liaise with Procurement
* Liaise with clients, third parties, and stakeholders
* Collect and collate QA documentation for final records
* Support Site Construction Manager in developing target costs
* Compliance: ensure compliance with OHSAS 18001:1999, ISO 9001:2000, and ISO 14001:2004 standards
Qualifications
* Demonstrated industry experience in a similar role and/or recognised Engineering qualification in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering or willingness to study towards a relevant qualification
* Experience in site supervision of Overhead Line / Underground Cabling contracts, in particular on steel tower construction at the higher voltages (circa 132kV and above)
* Demonstrated experience with foundation construction in power transmission projects
* Experience of using Total Stations for setting out purposes
* Previous experience in the management of sub-contractors and the recording of measurement details to enable financial settlement
* Possess a recognised Safety Qualification (such as IOSH or NEBOSH)
* Supervisory experience of technical aspects of construction, including access and accommodation works, traffic management, scaffolds, metal access roads, yard setup, welfare facilities, foundations, conductor and fitting replacement works
* Willingness to work away from home regularly and for prolonged periods of time
* Proven coordination with third parties (local councils, highway authorities, environment agencies, Network Rail, DNOs – Western Power, Eon, & EDF; BT, National Grid Wireless, National Grid Land and Development)
* Driving license
