The job itself
An 11 year old girl is looking for a direct payment worker to support her in accessing activities she enjoys in the community, and to promote independence.
She is a very happy, smiley little girl, who tries her best to communicate. She is a very loving and caring little girl who likes to try new things with the support of others. She loves singing and dancing, especially Disney, Wicked, High School Musical and Moana 2. She loves school and group activities. Swimming is her favourite activity of all, and she absolutely loves going down water slides with the support of a trusted person. She loves Arts and Crafts and is very creative but may get distracted. She may get frustrated when someone cannot understand what she is trying to communicate. Sometimes she gets overstimulated in loud and busy environments and will need her earphones and her iPad. She may not always enjoy sharing, but with encouragement she will take turns and share. She requires support and encouragement communicating with people as she is nonverbal and can say one or two words.
She requires support to help keep her focused. She requires patience and understanding and a caring individual to allow her time to work out what she requires and if she likes it. Her balance and walking needs means may require additional support doing physical activities (e.g., little monkeys, big fun), She requires support getting around and some prompting to show her what to do and how to do it, She requires help and support accessing activities such as lifting and support playing.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
1. Settling and supporting the individual.
2. Supporting the individual to physically access activities such as soft play sessions.
3. Keeping them safe in the community.
4. Attending/transporting the individual to social activities the young person enjoys.
5. Encouraging social interaction, inclusion and providing personal care and emotional support.
About the Candidate
The suitable candidate must:
6. Be patient, caring, understanding and fully committed to meeting the young persons needs.
7. Be able and willing to build a positive relationship with the young person.
8. Be flexible to meet the needs of the young person and the family.
9. Be conscientious and committed to providing support, care, and personal care for the young person.
10. Must be a car driver and have access to a vehicle .
