Role Overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a progressive, multidisciplinary team delivering sustainable and energy-efficient building solutions. This role is ideal for someone with a strong grounding in electrical building services who is passionate about low-carbon design, building physics integration, and performance-led engineering.
The position is hybrid, requiring three days per week in a collaborative Leeds-based office environment.
Key Responsibilities: Electrical Systems Design: Develop and coordinate electrical designs including lighting, power distribution, controls, and renewable energy systems for residential and commercial buildings.
Sustainability Integration: Work closely with building physicists and sustainability consultants to embed electrical systems within thermal modelling and energy strategies.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant UK standards and regulations (e.g., Part L, BREEAM, Net Zero Carbon pathways).
Design Documentation: Prepare technical reports, schematics, load calculations, and performance specifications from concept through to construction.
Collaboration: Engage with architects, MEP consultants, and clients to ensure integrated and buildable solutions.
Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon impact, and optimise lifecycle performance.
Project Support: Attend coordination meetings and provide input during key design and delivery stages.
Candidate Profile: Essential:
Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
Will consider 2-6 years' experience in building services or MEP consultancy.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit; familiar with Dialux, Relux, or similar lighting simulation tools.
Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and sustainability frameworks.
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team setup.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (IET, CIBSE).
Knowledge of renewable energy systems (e.g., PV, battery storage, EV infrastructure).
Experience integrating electrical design with thermal/energy modelling tools (e.g., IES VE).
Familiarity with embodied carbon assessments or net-zero strategies.
Whats on Offer: Involvement in high-impact projects across the residential, commercial, and education sectors.
A supportive environment that values sustainability, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Flexible working structure with three days per week in a modern Leeds office.
Opportunities for continued professional development and training.
