Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist (CYPSLT – SLD Schools)
Location: Downpatrick
Rate of pay: £15.88 per hour
Contract: Temporary (to 30 June 2026) with possibility of extension
Hours: To be agreed (full time / part time hours available)
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a compassionate, motivated Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist to join the Children & Young People Speech & Language Therapy (CYPSLT) service, primarily supporting pupils within Special Schools (SLD). This is a rewarding role working with children and young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs, including complex needs, ASD and Developmental Language Disorder.
You will work closely with families, educational staff and senior SLTs, delivering evidence‑based assessment, intervention and collaborative support.
What You’ll Do
1. Manage an allocated caseload, including assessment, prioritisation, treatment planning and outcome monitoring.
2. Work in partnership with parents/carers, teachers, classroom assistants, and multi‑disciplinary partners.
3. Provide training, advice and guidance to staff and families, supporting communication‑friendly environments.
4. Prepare clinical reports, including those required under the Education (NI) Code of Practice.
5. Participate in supervision, CPD, clinical audit and service development.
6. Maintain accurate clinical notes, data and administrative records.
About You (Essential)
7. Recognised Speech & Language Therapy qualification meeting RCSLT requirements.
8. HCPC registration, RCSLT membership, and professional indemnity insurance.
9. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments available for applicants with disabilities).

13. A range of paediatric assessment tools and therapeutic approaches
14. Excellent interpersonal, communication and observation skills.
15. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload.
16. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
17. Willingness to engage in ongoing training and innovative practice.
Desirable
18. Experience using assessment tools and interventions relevant to children with complex needs within educational settings.
