Job Summary
The Lead Senior is responsible for delivering high standards of person-centred care and ensuring the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all residents. As the senior member of staff on duty, you will oversee shift operations, supervise care staff, manage medication safely,and ensure the smooth and effective running of the home in line with company policies,procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead, support, and motivate care staff during shifts, ensuring duties are delegated
effectively and completed to a high standard.
● Act as the senior point of contact on shift, escalating issues appropriately to the Care
Home Manager.
● Mentor and support new and trainee care assistants, ensuring induction and training
processes are followed.
● Promote a positive, caring atmosphere for residents, families, and visitors.
Resident Care
● Deliver compassionate, person-centred care in line with individual care plans.
● Promote residents' dignity, independence, and well-being.
● Support with personal care, activities of daily living, and social engagement.
● Monitor residents' health, well-being, and safety, reporting concerns promptly and
making referrals as required.
● Provide sensitive, respectful end-of-life care, ensuring procedures and
documentation are completed appropriately.
Medication Management
● Administer, record, and monitor prescribed medication in accordance with policy
and training.
● Ensure accurate MAR charts, controlled drug registers, and care documentation are
maintained.
● Liaise with GP's, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals to manage
medication supplies.
Compliance & Safety
● Maintain accurate records, care plans, risk assessments, and daily documentation
using the PCS system.
● Ensure compliance with safeguarding, infection control, health & safety, fire safety,
COSHH, and moving & handling regulations.
● Record and report incidents, accidents, and safeguarding concerns promptly.
● Contribute to audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Communication & Relationships
● Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, colleagues, and
external professionals.
● Welcome visitors warmly and ensure confidentiality is always maintained.
● Participate in staff and resident meetings, handovers, and supervision sessions.
Environment & Activities
● Ensure residents' rooms and communal areas are clean, safe, and welcoming.
● Support and encourage residents to participate in recreational and social activities.
● Promote a homely, inclusive atmosphere within the care home.
Person Specification
Essential:
● NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
● Experience in a senior care role within a care home setting.
● Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
● Compassionate and committed to person-centred care.
● Confident in administering medication and maintaining accurate records.
Desirable:
● Medication management training.
● Experience supporting residents with dementia or complex needs.
● Knowledge of CQC standards and inspection requirements.
General Notes
● You are expected to attend all mandatory training, supervision, and appraisal
sessions.
● Breaks will be taken in line with working time regulations while ensuring care cover
is maintained.
