Role Introduction

To support the Catering Supervisor in the preparation, and service of food and beverages within Rowlands – a tuck shop for the boys, ensuring high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer service appropriate to a college environment. The role ensures that all service aligns with safeguarding requirements, college policies, and responsible hospitality standards.

Due to the needs of the school and the department, we may interview suitable candidates before the closing date. This job may also close early if a large number of applications are received. You are advised to submit your application as early as possible to avoid missing your chance to apply.

Main Duties

1. Provide professional and efficient food and drinks service to boys;
2. Serve food and drinks in line with Rowlands standards and hygiene requirements;
3. Ensure all students are served safely and appropriately, reporting any concerns in line with safeguarding procedures;
4. Operate a till to take payment;
5. Set up the facilities before service, ensuring stock levels, cleanliness, and equipment readiness;
6. Close down the facilities and tables after service, including cleaning, waste disposal, stock checks, refrigeration checks, and securing the area;
7. Work collaboratively with the Catering Supervisor to maintain a safe and well-managed environment;
8. Adhere to food, hygiene and safety standards and allergen management policies;
9. Attending training as and when required;
10. All employees of Eton College are also expected to:
11. Develop a good understanding of safeguarding procedures, given all positions at Eton are classed as ‘regulated activity’;
12. Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This includes but is not limited to completing safeguarding training as required, complying with all safeguarding procedures and ensuring any safeguarding updates issued by the College are read and understood;
13. Understand and comply with procedures and legislation relating to confidentiality;
14. Display a commitment to and promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Working Pattern

15. You will be working 23.5 hours per week plus overtime during Summer term timings;
16. Your working hours will be as follows:
17. Monday: 09:00-12:00 (3 hours)
18. Tuesday: 09:00-12:00 & 15:30-18:00 (5.5 hours)
19. Wednesday: 09:00-12:00 (3 hours)
20. Thursday: 09:00-12:00 & 15:30-18:00 (5.5 hours)
21. Friday: 09:00-12:00 (3 hours)
22. Saturday: 16:00–19:30 (3.5 hours)
23. You will be contracted to 40.6 weeks per year (You will be paid over 12 months).
24. You will be entitled to 5.6 weeks of holiday. (You must use all your entitlement (including any lieu days) during periods of school holidays. If a bank holiday falls during a school term period, you will be required to work this day and you will receive an additional day’s holiday in lieu).

You do not require any formal qualifications, however, we look for the following characteristics for those who work as part of our team:

25. A friendly, positive and personable manner with the ability to engage a wide range of people;
26. A desire to provide excellent customer service and exceed customer expectations;
27. The proven ability to work well in a team;
28. Personal initiative and the ability to carry out tasks under pressure;
29. Ability to maintain cleanliness and hygiene to a high standard;
30. Previous Restaurant/Dining/Hotel experience would be advantageous.
