Overview
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Geomatics Analyst to join a small team processing survey data to support the delivery of National Elevation Data Programmes. You will use specialist software and GIS to process and quality control data from Remote Sensing survey instrumentation including our Airborne LIDAR Terrain Mapper.
Responsibilities
* Process and quality control survey data to support National Elevation Data Programmes.
* Utilise specialist software and ESRI GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap) to manage large and complex mapping datasets, preferably including Airborne LIDAR data.
* Carry out quality control procedures on LIDAR datasets and LIDAR-derived Digital Elevation Models.
* Apply Remote Sensing techniques, analytical skills and detailed attention to ensure high-quality outputs.
* Communicate findings clearly and work effectively, sometimes unsupervised, to meet challenging deadlines.
* Be adaptable to a range of roles and working patterns to develop skills and widen experience; day-job support is provided for incident response duties when required.
* Travel to the Geomatics team hub base in Bath when required and attend EA offices as needed to support team activities.
Qualifications and Experience
* A relevant degree-level qualification in Geography, GIS, Environment or another relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience with understanding of operational applications.
* Demonstrable practical GIS skills using ESRI products and experience with large and complex mapping datasets; experience with Airborne LiDAR is preferred.
* Experience processing and quality checking LIDAR datasets and LIDAR-derived DEMs is advantageous.
* Experience in Remote Sensing techniques, analytical/problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to communicate effectively and work to deadlines.
* Good organisational skills, motivation, professional attitude, and the ability to work with limited supervision.
Additional Information
* The National Monitoring Survey team is national in scope; you can be based anywhere within commuting distance of an Environment Agency office.
* Interviews will be in-person at our Bath office and will include a technical GIS assessment and capability questions.
* Contract type: Full-time; other working patterns may be considered. Length of contract: 17 months (up to March 2027).
