Clare College seeks to appoint a College Teaching Officer (CTO) in Economics to begin in October 2026.
The post is offered on a fixed-term basis for a period of three years, to provide teaching and administrative cover arising from the appointment of Dr Juan Block as Senior Tutor of Clare. The post-holder will be eligible for election to a Fellowship of the College.
Applicants should be able to offer teaching on at least one core subject within the Economics Tripos (Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Econometrics) and preference may be given to applicants whose area of research and teaching portfolio complement those of the College’s two UTO Fellows in Economics, Flavio Toxvaerd and Melvyn Weeks. Professor Toxvaerd teaches Industry and Dr Weeks teaches Statistics and Econometrics. The successful candidate will be required to act as a Director of Studies and participate fully in the administration of the subject. This includes undertaking twelve hours’ supervision a week during Full Term for the College as well as coordinating the undergraduate admissions process for Economics.
The successful applicant will have completed (or be nearing the completion of) a PhD or be of an equivalent standing, such as possessing outstanding results in academic qualifications with relevant experience. They may also have postdoctoral experience and will have active plans for research publication.
Salary and Benefits
The stipend for this position is point 45 on the University’s pay scale (currently £43,310 p.a.). The role is subject to a four-month probation period.
