Job Purpose: This role involves reviewing and assessing design solutions for building envelopes to ensure structural integrity, performance, and compliance with standards. The successful candidate will conduct appropriate engineering calculations and develop design proposalsstandard or bespokethat effectively engage clients on specific projects. The role is key in providing detailed design solutions and advising on project requirements to enhance client engagement and project success.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Review architectural drawings and propose efficient faade solutions for the building envelope.
Prepare preliminary structural assessments for proposed glass and aluminium structures.
Conduct detailed thermal assessments of both standard and bespoke envelope systems.
Develop technical reports and studies related to building envelope performance and buildability.
Develop concept and, when appropriate, detailed design proposals.
Create faade systems tailored to the UK market and client needs.
Collaborate with internal teams (Product, Project Managers, Sales) and external clients, fabricators, and design consultants.
Conduct site visits to understand client requirements and explore design options.
Participate in internal and external design meetings, presenting proposals to clients when necessary.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Masters degree in Structural or Faade Engineering.
Proven experience designing complex glass- and aluminium faade systems.
Strong knowledge of unitised and stick faade systems.
Good understanding of aluminium window and door systems.
Knowledge of cladding systems such as GFRC, terracotta, and precast.
Experience with glass structures.
Proficiency in building physics.
Expertise in faade structural engineering.
Skilled in Autodesk AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
Experienced with FEM software such as Dlubal RFEM or similar.
Proficient in building physics software like Flixo or equivalent.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor.
German language skills are a plus.
