Trained Bus Cleaner – Role A trained bus cleaner is responsible for ensuring buses are clean, hygienic, and presentable for passengers. This includes thorough interior and exterior cleaning, following strict safety and cleanliness standards—often working early mornings, nights, or shifts to clean buses between routes or overnight. ⸻ Core Responsibilities • Clean and sanitise all interior areas of buses, including: • Passenger seating • Handrails and poles • Floors, windows, and walls • Driver’s cabin and dashboard (if permitted) • Empty rubbish bins and dispose of waste safely. • Sweep, mop, and deep clean floors using industrial equipment. • Clean exterior of the bus using jet washers or automated bus wash systems. • Refill consumables (e.g. hand sanitiser, tissues, bin liners) if required. • Identify and report any damage, vandalism, or safety concerns to supervisors. • Use appropriate cleaning chemicals and PPE, following COSHH guidelines. • Work quickly and efficiently within tight time schedules (e.g. between shifts or overnight). ⸻ Key Skills & Training • Knowledge of industrial cleaning techniques and products. • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) trained. • Manual handling and safe use of cleaning equipment. • Time management and ability to meet tight deadlines. • Attention to detail and commitment to high standards. • Ability to work independently or as part of a team. • Basic understanding of safety procedures in a transport environment. ⸻ Work Environment • Bus depots, garages, and stations. • Working during off-peak hours (nights, early mornings, weekends). • May involve outdoor work and physical labour (e.g. bending, lifting, climbing steps).
