SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Dunstable
Pay: £460-£500 per week

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and forward-thinking school community in Dunstable. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs while developing a long-term career in education and training.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional resilience, and build positive relationships within a structured and nurturing environment.
Key SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Support students experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, behavioural challenges, trauma-related needs, and attachment difficulties
Assist pupils with emotional regulation and the development of coping strategies
Promote positive behaviour using restorative and consistent approaches
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence
Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and remaining focused during lessons
Implement behaviour support plans and individual education plans (IEPs/EHCPs)
Liaise closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and inclusion staff
Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
Help create a safe, calm, and inclusive classroom environment
Support during unstructured times, including break and lunchtime where required
Encourage social skills development and positive peer interactions
Model positive communication and behaviour at all times
