Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Bristol or Cardiff
Permanent | Full‑time | Hybrid (3 days in office)
An experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer is required to join a well‑established multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong pipeline of civil and structural projects across the UK and overseas. The role will support planning and engineering teams on a diverse portfolio of work—from early‑stage development and ground engineering assessments to detailed design.
Responsibilities
* Specify, manage, and interpret ground investigations.
* Deliver geotechnical assessments.
* Develop design solutions for infrastructure and building projects.
* Prepare and review geotechnical reports and assessments.
* Conduct proof‑of‑concept checks, slope stability, and settlement analyses.
* Design foundations, cuttings, embankments, and retaining structures.
* Develop earthworks specifications and mitigation measures for legacy mining sites.
* Contribute to Geotechnical Design Reports and provide feedback in line with CD622.
About You
* Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology with a postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering.
* Chartered status (CEng or equivalent).
* Strong technical understanding of EC7 and UK design codes.
* Proficient in geotechnical software (Rocscience and Geo5 preferred).
* Experience preparing drawings (ARC GIS and CAD desirable).
* Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
* Confident managing client relationships and leading design delivery.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK. Full UK driving licence required.
