Job Summary
To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, as defined in the National Standards of Cleanliness, in all areas of responsibility. To ensure Infection Prevention and Control guidelines are adhered to and personal conduct is at the highest standard while on the hospital premises. This role involves effective communication with staff, patients and visitors and supporting the Trust’s Patient First initiatives.

Job Responsibilities
* Clean corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms and patient bed spaces frequently using dusting, high‑ and low‑level cleaning, replenishment of disposable items, and deep cleans where required.
* Adhere to Control of Infection & Prevention procedures, using colour‑coded equipment to prevent the spread of infection.
* Comply with National Cleaning Standards and the required cleaning frequencies as per the work schedule.
* Remove rubbish and dispose of clinical and domestic waste in line with Trust and national waste policies.
* Perform general floor scrubbing and floor maintenance using floor machines according to agreed guidelines.
* Handle chemicals safely, following COSHH regulations, safety data sheets and training provided.
* Keep cleaning equipment (including electrical) clean and properly maintained, reporting breakdowns or faults to the line manager.
* Attend all training sessions and complete competency tests as required.
* Carry out work in strict accordance with manual handling training and the risk assessments and safe systems of work.
* Ensure the security of stock, keep cleaning cupboards tidy and adhere to Trust standards regarding uniform, conduct and PPE.
* Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times.
* Clean bathrooms, shower rooms, WCs and wash‑hand basins in line with the Bathroom Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
* Respond to actions from cleaning audits and undertake reasonable duties as required, welcoming new methods or frequencies of cleaning.
* Complete national cleaning standards rectification sheets within the appropriate timeframe.
Person Specification
Essential
* Good level of general education, numeracy and literacy.
* English language proficiency suitable for effective communication.
* Willingness to undertake required training (COSHH, Infection Control, Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Food Safety, Fire Safety and other mandatory training).
* NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services or willingness to obtain it.
Desirable
* Experience working in a healthcare environment.
* Experience using cleaning equipment including floor machinery.
* Knowledge of hygiene standards including infection prevention and control.
* Positive attitude and ability to communicate with patients, staff and visitors.
* Proven record of customer service skills.
