Job Overview
We are recruiting for an Associate Electrical Engineer to join our Building Environments team in our Manchester office. The role offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in a varied portfolio of engaging and dynamic projects both in the UK and globally, offering the opportunity to work on unique and high‑profile projects.
Our Manchester Building Services (MEP) team is involved in a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects. Current projects include:
* Wrexham AFC Kop Stand Redevelopment, Wrexham – Redevelopment of the STōK Cae Ras stadium.
* MMU All Saints Library, Manchester – Creation of a new world‑class library and teaching building.
* Sister Manchester Plot C, Manchester – First new build development on the Sister Manchester site.
BuroHappold's Manchester Building Services team continues to deliver cutting‑edge design solutions encouraging efficient use of materials, energy and natural resources.
Key Duties
* Contribute to leading the electrical team and take a project leadership role as required.
* Communicate directly with clients, offering innovative design solutions and managing expectations.
* Prepare technical and financial proposals for new work.
* Manage workload of engineers and technicians.
* Prepare technical specifications.
* Monitor financial performance of jobs and manage job/project administrative systems.
* Undertake detailed electrical engineering building services design and calculations.
* Embrace technologies to improve performance and sustainability to meet net zero targets by 2030.
* Ensure projects are carried out to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budget.
* Actively engage with colleagues across disciplines in group discussions and at events and seminars.
* Mentor more junior team members, potentially leading to an early line management role.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive electrical design experience in an MEP consultancy, with experience acting as project leader.
* Diverse sector experience, ideally with large‑scale projects.
* Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, able to develop relationships with clients, architects and other team members.
* Bachelor's or master’s degree in engineering.
* Professionally registered with a relevant institution; e.g. CIBSE, IMechE.
* Broad design knowledge, using British, US and European codes of practice.
* Experience using Revit and Amtech and willingness to learn new analysis packages.
* Digital engineering skills or automation tools advantageous.
