The Evergreen Ward is looking for an enthusiastic Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join our experienced multi-disciplinary team. The Evergreen is a General Adolescent Unit (GAU) for 12-18 year olds with severe, or complex mental health difficulties.

The assistant psychology role will involve a range of duties that will support candidates to gain necessary skills for a future career in psychology. This includes facilitating individual and group psychological direct and indirect interventions, observing and completing neurocognitive assessments and psychometrics and support with the audit and literature research processes of the psychological therapies department.


Main duties of the job

* To demonstrate the Trust's values in everything you do in the work environment.

* Delivery of Effective Healthcare within the organisation.
* To undertake clearly defined clinical tasks, such as observations, patient interviews, surveys / feedback, and low-level clinical work under closely monitored supervision within the level of own competence and under supervision.
* To undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of clients, at times applying specific psychological measures and instructions, and interpret the findings of assessments under supervision from a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist.
* To assist in the formation and delivery of care plans involving psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist, in inpatient and community settings.
* To assist in the co-ordination and running of psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
* Working with the Child and Adolescent population and their families and associated professional networks.
* To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of patients, across all settings where care takes place.
* To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

Job responsibilities

To undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuropsychological, tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a clients problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, virtually and face-to-face. To assist in the coordination and running of groups and courses. To work with other staff to assess and review their care in network meetings with the wider team, the young people and their families. To attend and contribute to appropriate inter-disciplinary meetings. Liaise and build networks with professionals across the service and in the community. All staff members have a duty to report any concerns they have about the safety or well being of service users, members of their families. Employees should be aware of their roles & responsibilities to both prevent and respond appropriately to abuse. They should undertake the safeguarding training required for their particular role.


Person Specification


Education/ Qualification/ Training

* An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
* Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.


Experience

* Work with people with mental / physical health problems and/or other disabilities.
* Experience working in mental health settings such as outpatient, day patient and community settings
* Experience of managing highly complex situations concerning safeguarding and risk management
* Experience of clinical outcome evaluation/audit processes
* Experience of working in a team setting


Knowledge and Skills

* High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
* An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental/physical health problems or other disabilities.
* An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental / physical health context
* An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
* Experience using microcomputers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows.
* Advanced knowledge of several IT systems e.g. Microsoft Office, Rio, Datix
* High standard of report writing.
* Good presentation skills including PowerPoint.
