Working as an SEN Learning Support Assistant in one of our partner primary schools in Slough, you will be directly contributing to improving access, equity, and outcomes for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and complex developmental profiles.

You will be supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), sensory differences, communication needs, and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). Many pupils may require high levels of structure, multi-sensory learning, predictable routines, and tailored emotional support. Some may also have experienced early life trauma, impacting their emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
Your role will be central to ensuring these pupils feel safe, respected, and fully included—helping to dismantle barriers to learning and participation while promoting dignity, autonomy, and positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities
1. Provide personalised support to children with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism, sensory needs, SEMH needs, and PDA profiles.
2. Adapt learning activities for pupils with significant cognitive delays, non-verbal communication, and complex support needs.
3. Use multi-sensory, structured, and low-demand approaches to promote engagement and reduce anxiety.
4. Support pupils affected by trauma by maintaining predictable routines and relational, trust-based practice.
5. Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and positive behaviour support strategies.
6. Use communication systems such as visual schedules, PECS, objects of reference, and AAC tools.
7. Promote independence, emotional regulation, and social connection through structured and purposeful activities.
8. Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and external professionals to support holistic development.
9. Record observations and contribute to reports that help shape inclusive practice and equitable support.
10. Help cultivate a classroom culture where diversity, respect, and inclusion are central values.
What We’re Looking For
11. A degree in Psychology, Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
12. Experience supporting children or young people with SLD, Autism, sensory needs, SEMH, PDA, or trauma is valuable.
13. A strong interest in social justice, inclusion, and equal access to education.
14. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, rooted in empathy, patience, and active listening.
15. A proactive, reflective, and solution-focused mindset.
16. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
17. A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
