About the Role As a Semi-Senior Accountant, you'll work on a varied client portfolio, preparing accounts and tax returns whilst developing your technical expertise under the guidance of senior team members. You'll gain exposure to different industries and client types, building your confidence and capabilities as you progress towards senior positions. Key Responsibilities Accounts Preparation & Financial Reporting Prepare statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies to trial balance stage and beyond Assist in the preparation of management accounts for clients Process bookkeeping records and reconcile bank statements, control accounts, and balance sheet items Prepare year-end journals and adjustments Ensure all work is completed accurately and in accordance with UK accounting standards Review and analyse financial information to identify queries and discrepancies Taxation Prepare personal tax returns (SA100) for sole traders, partnerships, and individuals Assist with corporation tax computations (CT600) for limited companies Prepare VAT returns and maintain VAT records Support clients with basic tax queries and compliance matters Assist with tax planning opportunities under supervision Client Communication & Service Liaise with clients to request information and clarify financial queries Build positive working relationships with clients through professional communication Respond to client queries in a timely and helpful manner Attend client meetings alongside senior team members when required Provide excellent client service that reflects the firm's values Systems & Technology Utilise cloud accounting software including Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent Maintain accurate records within practice management systems Embrace new technologies and digital accounting solutions Support clients with cloud accounting queries and basic system setup Professional Development & Teamwork Work collaboratively with colleagues across the practice Support junior team members and trainees when appropriate Participate in training and development opportunities Stay current with changes in accounting standards and tax legislation Contribute to team meetings and knowledge sharing What We're Looking For Essential Qualifications & Experience Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, AAT Level 4, or equivalent) Minimum 3 years' UK practice experience within an accountancy firm environment Solid understanding of UK accounting principles and tax legislation Experience preparing accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and/or limited companies Competent in preparing personal tax returns and basic corporation tax computations Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel Desirable Skills & Experience Experience using cloud accounting platforms such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent Exposure to different client sectors and business types Understanding of FRS 102 and UK GAAP Experience with VAT returns and compliance Key Skills & Attributes Strong technical accounting skills with excellent attention to detail Good organisational skills – able to manage workload and meet deadlines Effective communication skills both written and verbal Proactive approach to learning and professional development Team player with a positive, can-do attitude Client-focused with professional manner and presentation Adaptable and flexible – comfortable working on varied tasks Excellent Benefits Package Our client offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits designed to support your career development and wellbeing: Competitive salary: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications) Work-life balance: Hybrid and Flexible working hours and understanding approach to personal commitments Study support: Full funding for professional qualifications including study leave, exam fees, and study materials Career progression: Clear pathway to Senior Accountant and beyond with structured development plans Professional development: Regular training, CPD opportunities, and technical updates Mentorship: Support and guidance from experienced qualified accountants Supportive culture: Collaborative, friendly team environment where your contribution is valued Social events: Regular team activities, celebrations, and charity events Pension scheme: Workplace pension contribution Annual leave: Generous holiday entitlement plus bank holidays Free parking: On-site parking available About Our Client Our client is a chartered certified accountancy practice based in Crewe, with over 20 years of experience serving businesses and individuals across Cheshire and Staffordshire.
