Job Purpose:
The Internal Communications Manager will lead on the development and delivery of effective communications strategies, ensuring all colleagues are informed, engaged, and inspired. You will report to the Chief Executive, supporting the Board and Executive Leadership with key messages, manage internal communication channels, and contribute to a culture of openness and collaboration.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement an internal communications strategy aligned with YMCA Fairthorne Group's values and strategic objectives.
* Manage and enhance staff communication channels including newsletters, intranet, digital platforms, and events.
* Create, curate and distribute engaging inclusive content that informs, motivates, and recognises staff contributions.
* Lead a working party to deliver the annual staff recognition event and support the planning and delivery of internal events, workshops, and recognition programmes.
* Develop and maintain an internal editorial calendar – keeping track of what is being said, when and to whom, making sure communications are well timed and co-ordinated.
* Own the management and continuous improvement of YMCA Fairthorne Group internal communication channels ensuring they are engaging, accessible and fit for purpose.
* Partner with key stakeholders to foster a sense of unity and clarity across YMCA Fairthorne Group strengthening connection to our culture.
* Enhance employee understanding of how the charity is delivering its strategic plan by creating and sharing engaging news and updates that help people connect and understand our purpose, mission and values.
* Working closely with the Executive Assistant to support the Executive Leadership Team with messaging for organisational announcements and change management.
* Promote the charity's values, achievements, and initiatives, ensuring consistent internal branding, tone of voice and style.
* Act as a point of contact for internal communications queries and feedback, staying tuned in to what people need and tracking communications progress through the use of data and analytics.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications, adapting approaches as needed and making continual improvements and recommendations to the Executive Leadership to ensure all parts of the employee community are included.
* Attend employee forum meetings and other internal meetings as required.
Person Specification & Key Competencies
Qualifications and Experience:
* Previous experience in internal communications (or a similar role), preferably within the charity, not-for-profit, or youth sector.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to explain complex information simply.
* Excellent time management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work independently (and as part of a team) and meet deadlines.
* Flair for producing engaging content and organising initiatives that resonate with young audiences and diverse teams.
* Strong project management skills.
* Proficient in the use of AI, digital communication tools and platforms.
* Proven experience in planning, managing and delivering internal communications in a fast pace environment.
* Good awareness and understanding of how internal messaging supports broader business objectives.
