Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic, committed, and inspirational Teacher of Biology capable of teaching A-Level and GCSE, to cover maternity leave from January 2026. The ideal candidate will be organised, positive, and passionate, with strong classroom management skills. Applications are encouraged from both experienced candidates and those seeking their first teaching position, including ECTs.
Science is at the heart of our curriculum, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics taught from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. Small class sizes, typically 13–17 pupils, allow us to provide a highly supportive learning environment where pupils are stretched and challenged according to their abilities. At GCSE, we follow the AQA specification and offer both Combined and Separate Sciences, while at A-Level, all three sciences are popular choices, with Biology attracting particularly strong uptake.
The Science department is made up of eight full-time and part-time teachers supported by two experienced technicians. We work from well-resourced laboratories equipped with modern teaching and learning technologies. Practical science is central to our teaching, and pupils benefit from frequent hands-on investigations that develop their skills, curiosity and independence.
Responsibilities and Purpose
The role focuses on raising pupil attainment and achievement, monitoring progress, and providing feedback to ensure students meet expectations. Teachers
must meet national standards, ensure appropriate lesson plans, and effectively deploy support staff. Additionally, teachers will contribute to curriculum development, aid in developing schemes of work, and collaborate with colleagues to align objectives with the school's strategic priorities.
School Ethos and Pupil Welfare
Candidates must support the school's aims and ethos, promoting high standards and professional conduct while inspiring pupils and serving as role models. They
will monitor pupil progress, liaise with pastoral leaders, and employ consistent behaviour management strategies to foster an environment of mutual respect and
effective learning.
Staff Development and Quality Assurance
Teachers should reflect on their practice, engage in performance management, and participate in the recruitment process. They are expected to engage in target
setting and monitoring for pupils, contributing to departmental self-evaluation and improvement plans, while also maintaining accurate records of pupil
attainment and ensuring timely reporting.
Communication and Community Engagement
Effective communication with pupils, parents, and external bodies is crucial, in line with the school's communication policy. Teachers are also expected to attend
school events and parent consultations, representing the school's ethos positively.
This vacancy is part time, term time only.
Closing date for applications is Monday 13th October 2025, however applications will be assessed on receipt – please apply immediately. Interviews will take place at a mutually agreeable time. We reserve the right to interview outstanding candidates before closing the vacancy.
