About this Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager – Placemaking to join our Estates & Placemaking team in either Falkirk or Glasgow. You will be responsible for the efficient, safe and compliant delivery of placemaking and built‑environment capital projects that contribute to increased use, enjoyment and sustainability of Scottish Canals’ places and destinations, while protecting the heritage, character and integrity of the canal network.

The role is offered on a permanent basis, with a progressive starting salary of £49,588 - £54,187 (Band F). Working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.


Primary Responsibilities

* Managing a portfolio of placemaking capital projects through all key project phases, ensuring delivery to agreed outcomes, budgets and timescales.
* Scoping, planning and sequencing project activities, defining deliverables and managing milestones to prevent risks or delays becoming critical.
* Preparing and managing project budgets, cost plans and cashflows, working closely with Finance and maintaining accurate forecasts as projects evolve.
* Ensuring projects comply with Scottish Canals governance arrangements, the Management of Contractors Direction and CDM Regulations 2015, with a strong focus on health, safety and quality.
* Procuring, managing and monitoring the performance of consultants, contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with contractual, quality and health and safety requirements.
* Facilitating project meetings and producing clear, timely reports on progress, cost, programme, risk, safety and quality for governance forums and senior stakeholders.
* Managing project risk using defined risk management systems, exercising sound judgement and escalating issues appropriately.
* Ensuring environmental sustainability, accessibility and heritage considerations are embedded throughout project delivery, working closely with specialist colleagues.
* Communicating effectively with stakeholders, partners, communities and users affected by project works, maintaining confidence and minimising disruption.
* Reviewing project performance on completion, identifying lessons learned and good practice for future projects.

About You


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Degree in a relevant built‑environment discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Graduate or Associate membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB, RIBA/RIAS, APM), with support available to progress to full membership where appropriate.
* Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and health and safety management in construction settings.
* Awareness of heritage considerations and the constraints of working in sensitive historic environments.


Skills and Experience

* Degree in a relevant built environment discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Graduate or Associate membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB, RIBA/RIAS, APM), with support available to progress to full membership where appropriate.

Qualities & Abilities

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
* Organised and methodical approach, with sound professional judgement.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team, recognising personal limitations and escalating issues appropriately.
* Proficiency in standard business and project management software.
* A full, valid driving licence appropriate to the role.
