The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced SHE Advisor to join a large-scale, high-profile construction project in Somerset. This is a long-term, site-based role supporting a complex and fast-paced construction environment, offering stability and the potential for extension onto future projects across the region.
The role requires a proactive, visible safety professional who can lead from the front, influence site culture, and ensure the highest standards of safety, health and environmental compliance.
The Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day SHE oversight of site activities, working closely with site management and the wider project team to promote best practice, drive continuous improvement, and ensure full legal compliance.
Due to the scale of the site, this is a physically active role, involving extensive site walks and consistent engagement with operatives and supervisors across multiple work fronts.
You will report into the Project / Logistics Manager, with additional support from a centrally based SHEQ team.
Key Responsibilities
Proactive monitoring of construction activities across site
Conduct weekly SHE audits and safety culture inspections
Liaise with the client and stakeholders on health & safety matters
Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and implement lessons learned
Raise observations and promote positive intervention across site teams
Advise on close-out of actions and observations
Identify and escalate immediate safety concerns, including stopping work where necessary
Support and review RAMS, safety documentation and compliance
Deliver toolbox talks, briefings and supervisor safety meetings
Attend site H&S meetings, site walks and audits
Monitor training requirements, competencies and performance
Support safety initiatives and lead by example to enhance site culture
Advise site management on legal compliance and industry best practice
Essential Requirements
NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NVQ Level 3 Occupational Health & Safety
CSCS Gold Card (Occupational Supervision)
White (Academically Qualified) or Black (Manager) cards advantageous
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a construction-focused SHE / H&S role
Strong understanding of construction health & safety legislation
Full UK Driving Licence
Ability to work full-time on site
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Additional NEBOSH qualifications (Fire, Environmental, etc.)
NVQ Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety
Temporary Works Coordinator
Appointed Person (Lifting Operations)
Work at Height Safety
Traffic Management or Logistics Management experience
Qualified Trainer status
Additional training may be provided during the project, subject to operational requirements and approval.
Pay & Contract Structure
Temporary position for the duration of the project
Potential for extension onto future regional projects
Hourly rate or day rate considered (negotiable)
Overtime available, paid at standard enhanced rates (1⅓)
Weekend work may be required
