Birmingham is a vibrant city with a culturally and ethnically diverse population and the largest youth population in Europe. Birmingham EPS is seeking to appoint an aspiring or experienced manager to support our vision to demonstrate positive impact in applying psychology to support the learning, development and emotional wellbeing of children and young people.
Role Overview
Specialist Senior Educational Psychologists (SSEPs) have active roles and responsibilities within the four area teams and are part of the EPS senior leadership team. The role entails undertaking a lead strategic role in the delivery of Educational Psychology Services relating to a designated specialism – in this post, Autism. You will lead on key developments, contribute to the development of training and resources, and work closely with our Local Area Partners. As a manager, the role will involve supervision of qualified EPs and assistant psychologists. Alongside the specialist and management activities, you will provide generic work for up to 30% of your time: delivering a psychology service through consultation and working with individual and groups of children, parents and carers, schools and early years providers, the local authority and partner agencies.
Team and Service
You will be joining one of our inclusive, friendly, reflective, and supportive teams, working alongside over 40 HCPC registered educational psychologists and our valued teams of assistant psychologists and trainee colleagues on short‑ or long‑term placements with us. We also have a pool of Associate EP colleagues who support our statutory commitments and who are highly valued within our service. The Educational Psychology Service has an excellent reputation and a strong commitment to innovation, quality improvement, research and development. We are engaged in a variety of initiatives such as ‘SCERTS’, ELSA, VIG, VERP, Mediated Learning, Trauma Informed Attachment Aware Schools and Restorative Practice. Our EPs have the freedom to engage in a range of work at the individual, small/whole group, staff, parent, or systemic level. We are not a prescriptive service and value the diversity of approach at all levels. There are flexible working hours and hybrid working options, professional development opportunities and regular supervision and support from senior psychologists and peers.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must be HCPC registered Educational Psychologists with at least 2 years’ experience as qualified EPs who can demonstrate relevant experience through their existing and past roles of leadership within their practice, and supervision of and with others.
