About the Role:
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Grounds Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa, one of Darwin Escapes’ beautiful holiday destinations.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and has a practical, hands-on approach. In this role, you will support the upkeep and presentation of the park’s grounds, helping to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all guests.
This is a varied and active role, suited to someone who is proactive, adaptable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
This is a fixed-term, full-time position working 40 hours per week, with variable days including weekends and bank holidays.

Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa by Darwin Escapes is set within the stunning Somerset countryside, on the edge Cheddar Gorge—one of the UK’s most striking natural landmarks. Surrounded by rolling hills and woodland, it offers a peaceful setting perfect for escaping and recharging. The resort features stylish lodges alongside high-quality facilities, including a spa, swimming pool, gym, and on-site restaurant. Key Responsibilities:
• Carry out general grounds maintenance across the park, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and planting
• Maintain pathways, roads, and outdoor communal areas to a high standard
• Ensure all outdoor areas are clean, tidy, and well-presented at all times
• Assist with landscaping projects and seasonal planting
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, strimmers, and leaf blowers
• Conduct routine inspections of outdoor areas and report any issues or hazards
• Support waste management and recycling processes across the park
• Assist with setting up outdoor guest areas and facilities
• Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety procedures
• Work collaboratively with other departments to support the overall guest experience

What We’re Looking For:
• Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, or a similar outdoor role is desirable
• Basic knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, or turf care
• Practical, hands-on skills with a proactive approach to work
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• A flexible and positive attitude with a strong work ethic
