Laboratory Manager at the Mastermelt Technical Centre
We’re looking for a highly motivated Analytical Scientist to join our laboratory team and support cutting‑edge analysis of platinum group metals. If you’re passionate about precision, enjoy hands‑on lab work, and have a knack for solving complex analytical challenges — we want to hear from you!
🔬 What You’ll Be Doing
* Conduct quantitative analysis using wet chemistry, furnace‑based techniques (fire assay), and advanced instrumentation (ICP‑OES).
* 🧪 Troubleshoot, maintain, and optimise laboratory equipment.
* 📈 Develop, validate and transfer analytical methods.
* 📝 Prepare verification reports, and technical documentation for auditing.
* 📊 Interpret analytical data and communicate results clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
* ✔️ Perform monthly QC checks and standard solution stock checks.
* 🤝 Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive continuous improvement.
* 🔒 Ensure all work complies with ISO/IEC 17025 and safety standards.
* Hands‑on experience in a wet chemistry lab, pyrometallurgical furnace lab, or with analytical instrumentation, ideally with 2 – 3 years of laboratory experience.
* 🎓 BSc/HND in Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related field.
* Experience with preparing standards for ICP‑OES and running instrumentation is a key requirement for this role.
* Experience with completing fire assays using either lead or nickel sulphide is a key requirement for this role.
* Strong problem‑solver with the ability to work to tight deadlines.

* 📐 High attention to detail and excellent documentation skills.
* Understanding of quality systems and regulatory standards.
* 📊 Experience with LIMS, spreadsheets, and statistical tools would also be useful.
* Able to work independently and within a team, showing strong time‑management skills.

* Support continuous improvements in a high‑standards laboratory environment.

Pay: £35,000 – £38,000 per year
