Overview

Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Pupil Engagement

Location: Dorking, Surrey

Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Term-time only

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £23,000 - £25,000 per annum (DOE, term-time only)

School Overview: This growing specialist SEN school provides high-quality education for pupils with Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and associated learning differences. Role

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join the school on a permanent basis providing pastoral support. You will play a vital role supporting pupils outside of lessons, helping them to regulate their emotions, re-engage positively, and return to learning.


Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 pastoral support to pupils with Autism and SEMH needs
* Build trusted, supportive relationships to promote emotional regulation and wellbeing
* Work proactively with pupils who are disengaged, supporting reintegration back into class
* Assist in delivering interventions and strategies that promote resilience and confidence
* Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and families to ensure consistent support


Requirements

* Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs (school, youth work, or care settings considered)
* Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy
* Ability to support de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
* A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education
* Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply)
