Preceptorship
The transition from student to registered practitioner or international practitioner in the first UK post can be daunting. Our mandatory multi-professional preceptorship programme is designed to support and guide you through this transition.
Our Preceptorship programme is available to newly registered practitioners (including nurses, international nurses, registered nursing associates, return-to-practice practitioners, allied health professionals, and international allied health professionals) within their first year of registration. The programme aims to provide support, structure, and opportunities to develop confidence as an autonomous practitioner. It helps you develop the knowledge, skills, values, and behaviours gained as a student or international practitioner and encourages lifelong learning.
You will be supported by an experienced preceptor and other clinicians from your workplace, attending seven preceptorship study days organized by the Professional Development and Clinical Skills team. These monthly days, facilitated by experts from various specialties, promote interprofessional working, peer support, and shared learning.
To support academic development, all preceptees can undertake the Level 7 15-credit “Preceptorship for Healthcare Practice” (AP7026) postgraduate module, accredited by the University of Gloucestershire, which runs alongside the preceptorship. The aim of the programme is to empower you to provide compassionate care to patients, service users, families, and carers.
