Are you someone who thrives on building relationships, supporting young people through challenges, and making a genuine difference every day?

GSL Education is working with a specialist alternative provision in York to appoint a Behaviour specialist Learning Support Assistant. This setting supports pupils aged 5 to 16 who require a more personalised and nurturing approach to education, often due to SEMH needs or barriers to mainstream learning.

This is a highly rewarding role where no two days are the same; ideal for individuals who are resilient, proactive, and passionate about supporting young people to succeed.

Why this role?

* Be a key adult for students who need consistency and support.
* Work in a setting where relationships come first.
* Make a real impact on students’ confidence, behaviour, and future outcomes.
* Join a supportive and experienced team.

What you’ll be doing:

* Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis.
* Helping pupils re-engage with education through structured and tailored support.
* Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours in a calm, professional manner.
* Acting as a positive role model, promoting respect and routine.
* Supporting learning within the classroom and during less structured times.
* Encouraging emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.

Who this role would suit:

* Behaviour Mentors or Teaching Assistants.
* Youth Workers or Support Workers.
* Sports Coaches or individuals with mentoring experience.
* Psychology or SEN graduates.
* Anyone with experience supporting SEMH, behaviour, or vulnerable young people.

What we’re looking for:

* A calm, confident, and consistent approach.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* The ability to build trust with students who may be disengaged.
* Experience supporting behaviour or additional needs.
* A genuine passion for supporting young people.

To be considered, you must:

* Have relevant experience or a related qualification.
* Provide two recent references.
* Have the Right to Work in the UK.
* Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

GSL Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will undergo enhanced DBS checks and full compliance in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
