Environment Agency
Posted: 15 September
Offer description

Overview

We are seeking an Intelligence Research Officer to join the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The Environment Agency aims to be an intelligence-led organisation, and this role supports investigations by developing and accessing intelligence from diverse sources to inform decision making and provide actionable intelligence products for customers. Environmental crime is a strategic priority, and this role helps prioritise and drive interventions to remove unlawful operators from waste regimes.

You will help deliver our response by pro-actively developing and accessing intelligence from a range of sources and by producing intelligence products for customers. We are committed to an inclusive workforce reflecting the communities we serve and welcome flexible working patterns, including job share; please include any information about your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Responding to incidents is a central part of our work. You will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract additional payment and full training; alternative working arrangements will be available to support your incident role.

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to our Birmingham and Sheffield offices may be required on occasion. Interviews are expected to be held via Microsoft Teams in September 2025. We welcome applications from groups under-represented across our workforce.

Note: Security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required.

For an informal discussion please contact the vacancy managers at pete.booth@environment-agency.gov.uk or sam.morrison@environment-agency.gov.uk.

* Communicate effectively with partners and represent the Environment Agency professionally.
* Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and the ability to juggle multiple administrative tasks to support colleagues and customers.

Qualifications & Experience

* Experience collecting and evaluating information from diverse sources to inform intelligence products; ability to interrogate IT systems and databases is essential.
