Psychology Graduate SEMH Support Role Location: York, North Yorkshire Start Date: September 2025 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: £89 – £105 per day (depending on experience) Are you a recent Psychology graduate passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? This full-time role is ideal for graduates looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in a school environment that supports vulnerable and at-risk students. About the School Setting: You’ll be working in a supportive alternative provision that caters to students aged 5–16 who face barriers to learning due to SEMH challenges, trauma, or unmet additional needs. The setting offers a personalised, nurturing approach with a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, relationships, and restorative practice. Staff work closely as a team to help students re-engage with education, build self-confidence, and develop coping strategies for life beyond the classroom. What You’ll Be Doing as a Psychology Graduate: Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis, focusing on emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour. Assisting with the delivery of tailored lessons and therapeutic interventions alongside experienced educators and pastoral teams. Using your understanding of psychology to support students with anxiety, low self-esteem, ADHD, autism, and trauma-related behaviours. Helping to implement behaviour support strategies and contributing to a calm, consistent, and emotionally secure environment. Developing valuable skills in behaviour management, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice. Ideal for Graduates Who: Hold a degree in Psychology or a related subject. Have a genuine interest in child and adolescent mental health, SEND, or educational psychology. Are considering a future career in teaching, therapy, social work, or youth support. Are resilient, compassionate, and ready to make a meaningful impact in young lives. Have experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential).
