Job Summary

To lead the development, review, and delivery of robust Fire Strategies for complex transport and infrastructure environments, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and TfL/LU fire safety requirements.

The role involves providing strategic fire engineering guidance to multidisciplinary project teams and the supply chain, ensuring all design and construction solutions align with overarching fire safety principles, operational needs, and risk management frameworks.

• Develop and produce Fire Strategies for station, fit-out, and associated infrastructure works, ensuring alignment with project requirements, operational constraints, and fire safety objectives.

• Review and assess supply chain proposals (designs, materials, and systems) to ensure compliance with legislative requirements (e.g., Building Regulations, Fire Safety Act, BS 9999, BS 7974) and relevant TfL/LU standards.

• Provide strategic advice on fire engineering principles including evacuation modelling, fire dynamics, smoke control, compartmentation, detection and suppression systems, and resilience planning.

• Liaise with key stakeholders, including Fire Authorities, Building Control, and Engineering Assurance teams, to ensure agreement and compliance on fire safety solutions.

• Integrate fire safety considerations within the overall design and delivery process — from concept through to detailed design, construction, and handover.

• Guide and mentor supply chain partners, interpreting the strategic implications of proposed design solutions and advising on proportionate, risk-based approaches.

• Undertake technical reviews of fire engineering documentation such as Fire Strategies, CFD modelling, and evacuation analyses.

• Ensure all fire safety designs are aligned with TfL and LU operational safety standards, including those applicable to underground and overground stations, depots, and supporting infrastructure.

• Support assurance, approval, and sign-off processes for fire engineering deliverables.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of fire safety engineering processes, frameworks, and best practice guidance.

Essential Criteria

• Degree-qualified in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline (MEng or equivalent preferred).

• Proven experience developing Fire Strategies for complex, multi-stakeholder projects, ideally within transport, rail, or large-scale infrastructure environments.

• Comprehensive understanding of UK fire safety legislation, standards, and codes of practice (e.g., Building Regulations, BS 9999, BS 7974 series, BS 5839, BS 5266, NFPA).

• Experience engaging with Fire Authorities, Building Control, and other regulatory stakeholders.

• Strong technical capability in fire modelling, evacuation analysis, and risk-based design approaches.

• Ability to translate fire safety principles into practical, buildable, and operationally viable solutions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise technical reports and explain complex fire safety concepts to diverse audiences.

• Collaborative approach, able to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across design and construction interfaces.

Desirable Criteria

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it (IFE, ICE, or equivalent).

• Experience in rail or regulated transport environments, ideally with exposure to TfL and LU assurance processes.

• Familiarity with TfL Engineering Standards, LU Category 1 Fire Safety Requirements, and fire safety assurance procedures.

• Understanding of fire safety management in operational infrastructure, including interfaces with existing assets.

Application Process

• If you are interested and would like to be considered for this role, please send your CV and cover letter through to recruitment@srcinfrastructure.com
