Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Medical Examiner (ME) Office supports the mortality review process, implementing national guidance on learning from deaths.
This role is a clinically led position within the Clinical Support Business Unit, rotating across the Trust. The main base will be at North Tyneside General Hospital.
The post holder will be the point of contact for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals, the coroner, and registration services. Responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities
* Advise and support junior doctors and nursing staff on the legal requirements for death registration and completion of necessary investigations, including referrals to the Coroner's office.
* Provide advice and support to bereaved relatives/carers regarding the ME process and address any concerns raised.
* Administer the ME service, coordinating the support needed for the team, and report to the Operational Service Manager.
* Collect and collate information on the performance of the ME service and any learning from investigations undertaken by the ME/Coroner.
* Support MEs in scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death.
The ME office operates at North Tyneside General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital, Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, and various community hospitals and clinics across the Trust.
