Job Summary
We are seeking to appoint a full‑time Specialty Doctor to work in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to commence as soon as possible for maternity leave cover.
Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice, a basic medical degree (MBBS/MBChB equivalent), MRCOG Part 1 and a minimum of 3 years middle‑grade experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the NHS are required. MRCOG Part 2 and 3 are desirable, and full MRCOG (or equivalent) is also desirable.
Post holder is expected to work at Middle‑Grade level, participate in a full‑shift Middle‑Grade on‑call rota (1:10 pattern); previous on‑call experience at this level would be advantageous.
Required competencies include instrumental deliveries, caesarean section, and basic surgical management of miscarriage.

Main duties of the job
This Trust Middle‑Grade post in Obstetrics & Gynaecology includes second on‑call for the delivery suite and gynaecological emergencies, attending theatres, and running antenatal & gynaecology clinics. The rota is a 1:10 pattern comprising weekday and weekend on‑calls for both nights and day shifts.
The post will be offered for 6 months.

Job responsibilities
Facilities comprise a 13‑bedded inpatient unit on Ward 23, a Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) with ultrasound for emergencies, and procedures such as manual vacuum aspiration and incision & drainage of Bartholin’s abscess with Words catheter. An Early Pregnancy Assessment service operates Monday to Friday. The Gynaecology theatre suite contains two operating theatres (12 & 14) with anaesthetic and recovery areas, performing minimal‑access surgery, open surgery, urogynaecological procedures, and hysteroscopy.
The Gynaecology outpatient unit includes specialty clinics (ambulatory, colposcopy, one‑stop, and urodynamics) and general outpatient clinics. Specialist interests cover oncology, colposcopy, urogynaecology, subfertility, post‑menopausal bleeding (one‑stop), and hysteroscopy.
The Maternity Wing houses the maternity triage unit, delivery suite, antenatal & postnatal wards, transitional care, neonatal unit, and medical & midwifery management offices. The Antenatal Clinic and Fetal Assessment Unit (FAU) are within the new building. Special interest clinics include joint diabetic clinic, epilepsy, haematology, HIV, twins, and VBAC clinic. Equipment includes 10 ultrasound scanners and CTG monitoring (including computerised CTG) in the FAU, maternity triage, delivery suite, and antenatal wards. Antenatal care is provided under consultant‑led, midwifery‑led, and shared care. Delivery can be offered at the Midwifery‑Led Unit (MLU) or delivery suite based on risk assessment. The MLU is half a mile from the main hospital and run by dedicated midwives. The delivery suite contains nine delivery rooms, four induction bays, two bereavement rooms, two maternity theatres, and recovery areas. Delivery rooms include low‑technology rooms, high‑risk rooms, rooms for enhanced maternity care, and a twin delivery room/back‑up theatre.
Two maternity wards exist: a 20‑bed Primrose ward and a 12‑bed Foxglove ward. Elective Caesarean Sections are performed Tuesdays and Thursdays in Theatre 14. Detailed scans and procedures (e.g., amniocentesis) are performed in the fetal medicine suite.
