Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. •Educated to Master’s Level with advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in cancer genetics AND Genetic counsellor Registration with HCPC or AHCS (or be working towards registration)
Desirable criteria
2. •Counselling skills qualification
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
3. •Specialist interest in cancer genetics as demonstrated through clinical expertise and/or research
4. •Experience in genetic counselling, at level of Trainee Genetic Counsellor or equivalent
5. •Experience of managing an individual caseload
Desirable criteria
6. •Previous experience as a band 7 genetic counsellor
7. •Experience of teaching
8. •Experience in working in cancer genetics
Skills, abilities and attributes
Essential criteria
9. •Demonstrate ability to receive and present highly complex information verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences
10. •Ability to work autonomously and manage an independent caseload
11. •Works within AGNC and AHCS code of ethics and scope of practice
12. •Ability to work under pressure
13. •Ability to use all relevant computer/ IT programs
14. •Ability to review current literature and apply new data to risk analysis
15. •Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
16. •Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and recognition of the importance of record keeping
17. •Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills
Desirable criteria
18. •Proven ability to educate genetic and non-genetic healthcare professionals
19. •Attending of, taking minutes, leading and /or organise multidisciplinary meetings/clinics.
