On-Call Firefighter – Surrey Fire & Rescue Service
Working as an On-Call Firefighter requires dedicated individuals who go above and beyond their normal workday to protect their local community. You may have other commitments or full-time employment outside of the fire service but must be able to respond to emergency calls within your local area as needed.
Your role includes:
1. Delivering community fire safety by visiting schools, youth clubs, and other organizations to offer advice.
2. Responding to fires, road, rail, or air collisions, widespread flooding, and emergencies involving hazardous materials.
3. Performing duties such as fire hydrant inspections, equipment maintenance and testing, and station routines.
When responding to emergencies, you will receive a retaining fee, turnout fee, and additional hourly payments. Opportunities to earn more continue to expand.

Eligibility criteria include:
* Responding within four to seven minutes of an alarm, on foot or by vehicle, at your local On-Call Fire Station
* Availability to respond for 54 hours a week
* Being at least 18 years old
* Possessing a valid manual driving license (Category B)
